On the 29th, Sung Ki-hong, Senior Secretary for Public Relations and Communications at the Blue House, said in an interview with MBC Radio's 'Cho Seung-won's News High Kick', "Former Supreme Court Justice Noh Tae-ak retired in March, so naturally, the process of appointing a successor should be followed, but for some reason, Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae has not recommended any candidate for nearly half a year." Until now, the Blue House and Supreme Court have continued behind-the-scenes discussions after the four candidates to succeed Noh were decided in January . However, it is reported that the Blue House and the Supreme Court have not reached an agreement for over six months due to differing positions. Senior Secretary Sung said, "Last January, the Supreme Court Justice Candidate Recommendation Committee recommended four candidates to succeed former Supreme Court Justice Roh,   It would be enough to nominate one of the four nominated candidates," adding, "However, the Supreme Court did not follow any recommendation procedures," ,,, "It was only after half a year that the nomination process was unilaterally initiated without any specific explanation or customary consultation procedures." He continued, "This breaks existing precedent and disregards the president's appointment authority, so they rejected the recommendation and requested a re-nomination," but the Supreme Court again refused. Regarding Chief Justice Cho's refusal of the Blue House's request citing the 'Constitution' and 'judicial independence,' Sung criticized, "Judicial independence is guaranteed by upholding the Constitution and protecting the people's right to a trial," and added, "It should not be kept in mind that it does not arise from the Chief Justice arbitrarily appointing anyone he wishes."
